Eight decades. Many changes. One story that has evolved alongside Mozambique.
In an industry where brands emerge, grow and disappear, reaching 80 years is about more than longevity. It means navigating different eras, adapting to profound changes in society and continuing to find new ways to respond to how people live, work and move.
That is the story of Ronil.
Founded in 1946, Ronil has spent eight decades evolving alongside Mozambique’s automotive sector and contributing to the development of mobility in the country. Throughout that journey, markets have changed. Consumers have changed. Expectations around mobility have changed.
Ronil has evolved too, alongside the country, the market and the people who live in it.
What has remained constant is the trust built across generations, the proximity to its customers and the commitment to keep moving forward.
80 Years of Evolution
Ronil’s history is closely connected to the evolution of the automotive market in Mozambique.
From its earliest years, the company played a role in connecting international manufacturers with the Mozambican market. British brands including Austin, Morris, Jaguar and Land Rover formed part of the company’s early history, bringing new standards of quality, technology and mobility to a growing market.
As Mozambique’s automotive sector developed, so did Ronil.
Its portfolio evolved to meet changing market demands and the needs of different generations of customers.
In 1997, BMW marked another important chapter in that journey. The arrival of the premium brand strengthened Ronil’s position in the premium segment and opened a new phase in its relationship with international manufacturers.
Mazda, Honda and, more recently, Hyundai followed, further reflecting Ronil’s ability to adapt to a changing automotive landscape.
Today, Ronil’s role extends beyond the sale of vehicles. It provides specialised after-sales support, genuine parts and services focused on reliability and long-term customer care.
Because representing a brand is about more than delivering a vehicle.
It is about being there for the journey that follows.
Growing Without Forgetting Where It Came From
Ronil’s history can also be told through the places where generations of customers have encountered the brand.
The historic premises at the corner of Avenida Eduardo Mondlane and Avenida Karl Marx remain part of the memory of many people in Maputo. More than an address, they became part of the memory of several generations of Maputenses.
To this day, the area continues to be known simply as “Ronil” — a name that has become part of the city’s collective memory.
As the business grew, so did its operational needs. Its technical capacity was strengthened on Avenida de Angola before the company entered a new phase on Avenida FPLM, where it operates today from modern facilities aligned with the standards of the brands it represents.
The move to new facilities reflected the evolution of the business.
But it did not mean leaving its origins behind.
Instead, each new chapter added to a story that began in 1946.
That ability to evolve without losing its identity is one of the reasons Ronil can look at its 80th anniversary not simply as a celebration of the past, but as a foundation for what comes next.
From Cars to Mobility Solutions
The way people and businesses think about mobility has changed significantly.
Today, mobility does not necessarily mean buying a vehicle. It can mean managing a fleet, choosing a long-term rental solution, purchasing a certified used vehicle or finding a solution tailored to a particular business or personal need.
It was in response to these changing dynamics that Mozility was created as part of the group.
Mozility provides solutions for both private and corporate customers, including vehicle sales, fleet management, long-term rental and certified used vehicles.
It is also the exclusive representative of GWM in Mozambique, including Haval, Tank and the P-Series line.
Its creation reflects a broader vision: understanding that the future of mobility will be increasingly diverse, flexible and integrated.
The automobile remains part of that story.
But it is no longer the whole story.
80 Years of Legacy. A Responsibility for the Future.
Today, Ronil is led by Dalila Tsihlakis, representing the third generation of the founding family.
Her leadership comes at a particularly significant moment. A company with eight decades of history must respect what brought it this far, while also having the courage to question what needs to change.
Modernising processes, strengthening strategic partnerships and responding to an increasingly competitive market are part of that responsibility.
Because inheriting a legacy does not simply mean preserving it.
It means deciding what to do with it.
The Future Is Part of the Story
The true meaning of reaching 80 years is not simply the number.
It is the ability to remain relevant.
In 2026, Ronil looks back on a history built across generations, while continuing to develop its portfolio, mobility solutions and approach to a market that is constantly changing.
The past explains where Ronil came from.
The present shows where it is.
The future defines where it is going.
Eighty years ago, Ronil began building its story in a very different Mozambique.
Today, it remains part of the story of a country that has changed alongside it.
That is why 80 years is not simply a reason to look back.
It is an opportunity to recognise what has been built, celebrate the relationships that have lasted across generations and reaffirm the commitment to keep moving forward.
Because driving Mozambique for 80 years means being ready to continue driving it into the future.
